Monthly Luncheon Programs of the 1980s

In the early 1980s, SNC began featuring their monthly luncheon programs in their annual directory. Despite a few “To Be Announced” programs, most luncheons were planned well in advance and reflect their interests of the time. Two months were set aside for planned events, including the Christmas luncheon, which always included a local charity donation, and a month for the installation of new SNC officers and committee chairs.

Early programs focused on flower arranging, lawn and garden care, home decorating, travel, and health tips. Nearly every year there was at least one program on Savannah’s history. Mixed in with these popular topics, there were informative ones, i.e. September  1981’s “Georgia Laws and You,” July 1983’s  “Cancer Education for Women,” and August  1982’s “How Much is a House Wife Worth?”

In 1984-85, mysticism was a hot topic,  featuring two programs, “Intro to Astrology” and “Hypnotism.” In August 1983, there was a  presentation on “Personal Computers,” which must have been very novel at that time!

For many years, there was an annual Craft Show, where SNC members would “show and sell” their crafts. Nearly every year there was a Fashion Show, and depending on the month, it would feature either tropical wear, spring hats or furs.
