The Savannah Newcomers Club (SNC), one of our city’s oldest active clubs for women established in 1949, celebrated its 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee in 2024. Over the last seven decades, our members have included corporate business leaders, professionals, educators, and retired military veterans who have worked tirelessly to enrich our community, the city of Savannah.
Our 2024 President, Connie Hiott, envisioned a celebration that focused on SNC's momentous accomplishments through the years. On October 25, 2024 SNC commemorated those contributions with a celebratory luncheon featuring a SNC Through the Decades - Fashion Show. Our Emcee for the fashion show was Jane Tucker-Radley. In addition, a musical tribute by The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra and a Proclamation from Mayor Van Johnson honoring SNC’s community standing were all part of the festivities. We are quite proud of this recognition.
Whether it is through commerce and business engagements, charitable donations, volunteer work or numerous social activities, SNC provides women the opportunity to network, become civically involved, as well as have fun building relationships. In the last 75 years, SNC members have contributed significantly to our community through luncheons, various activities, and charitable contributions. Coupled with the hours our members volunteer as docents, healthcare providers, homeless shelter helpers, and community board members, SNC is a vital part of Savannah.
As part of our 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee celebration, we also focused on relationships with three Savannah nonprofit organizations that highlight women's issues, a subject near and dear to our hearts:
Our members worked diligently to raise money for these charities through sponsorships, auctions, and personal donations. As a result, we were able to donate $4,250 to each of our three honored recipients.
